Czech Vignette Prices 2027: All Vignette Rates Frozen
We have good news for international travellers heading to the Czech Republic: the annual increase in Czech motorway vignette prices is expected to be frozen for 2027. At the time of writing, the change is not yet 100% official, as the bill still needs to clear the Senate and receive final approval from the president. However, taking the current political situation and upcoming elections into account, the proposal is expected to be approved before the end of the year.
In short
- Price freeze for 2027: Standard passenger car vignette prices are expected to remain unchanged from 2026 levels, pending final legislative approval.
- Automatic hikes abolished: The government has permanently scrapped the automatic annual indexation (valorisation) tied to inflation and motorway network expansion.
- 24-hour vignette upgrade: The one-day vignette is set to change from expiring at midnight to being valid for a full 24 hours.
- Low-emission discounts retained: Zero-emission vehicles remain exempt, while plug-in hybrids and natural gas vehicles continue to qualify for reduced rates.
- Current legal status: The bill passed the Chamber of Deputies on 23 September 2026 and is now awaiting Senate approval and presidential assent.
What are the Czech vignette prices for 2027?
If the proposed amendment to Act No. 13/1997 Coll. (the Roads Act) is approved, Czech electronic vignette prices for standard vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes will remain at their 2026 levels.
| Vignette type | 2026 price | 2027 price (proposed) | Validity period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual | CZK 2,570 | CZK 2,570 | 365 days from selected start date |
| 30-Day | CZK 480 | CZK 480 | 30 consecutive calendar days |
| 10-Day | CZK 300 | CZK 300 | 10 consecutive calendar days |
| 1-Day | CZK 230 | CZK 230 | 24 consecutive hours (under new rule) |
Low-Emission Vehicle Discounts
The bill retains all existing environmental exemptions and concessions following discussions with European Union authorities regarding National Recovery Plan funding requirements:
- Fully electric and hydrogen vehicles: Exempt from vignette fees (CZK 0).
- Plug-in hybrid vehicles (CO₂ emissions up to 50 g/km): Eligible for eco-rates (Annual: CZK 640 | 30-Day: CZK 120 | 10-Day: CZK 70 | 1-Day: CZK 50).
- CNG and LNG vehicles: Charged at roughly half the standard rate (Annual: approximately CZK 1,280).

What exactly is changing?
The main change in the amendment is the permanent removal of automatic price indexation. Under the previous system, toll rates automatically adjusted each year based on a formula combining consumer-price inflation and the expansion of the national motorway network. With the 2026 vignette price changes, for example, the annual vignette increased from CZK 2,440 to CZK 2,570, a rise of CZK 130, or just over 5%. By removing this mechanism, future price adjustments will require an explicit decision by government or lawmakers rather than taking effect automatically each January.
The second major change affects drivers using the one-day vignette (jednodenní dálniční známka). Currently, a one-day vignette expires at 23:59:59 on the calendar day for which it was purchased, regardless of the time it was activated. We regularly hear complaints about this from customers, especially those crossing the Czech Republic overnight. For example, someone who begins their journey at 10 pm and continues through the Czech Republic until midday the following day currently needs either two one-day vignettes or a 10-day vignette to remain fully covered.
One important update to the one-day vignette
If the amendment is approved, the one-day pass will be valid for a full 24 hours from the time of activation instead of expiring at midnight. This means a driver activating a vignette in the late afternoon or evening will remain fully covered into the following day.
What is the current time plan?
Although the price freeze has passed the Chamber of Deputies, the bill still needs to complete a few more steps before its planned entry into force on 1 January 2027.
- 29 June 2026: The government approves the Ministry of Transport's proposed amendment to Act No. 13/1997 Coll.
- 14 July 2026: The bill receives its first reading in the Chamber of Deputies.
- 23 September 2026: The Chamber of Deputies approves the bill in its third reading (84 of 157 present MPs voted in favour, supported by coalition parties including ANO, SPD, and Motoristé).
- Next Steps: The bill must be reviewed and voted on by the Senate before being submitted to President Petr Pavel for final signature.
Government opinion vs opposition lawmakers
Transport Minister Ivan Bednárik has argued that passenger vignette prices have risen disproportionately in recent years. Historical adjustments saw the annual pass jump from its long-standing price of CZK 1,500 up to CZK 2,570, representing an increase of over 70%. The Ministry also noted that heavy vehicle toll rates increased by a significantly smaller percentage over a comparable period.
The Ministry has also pointed out that the Czech vignette is now more expensive than Austria's. We find that comparison troubling, given that Austrian drivers have access to a considerably larger and more developed motorway network at a lower price than users of the Czech motorway network.
Opposition lawmakers and political commentators have criticised the freeze mainly because of its impact on public finances. According to the bill's explanatory memorandum, the State Transport Infrastructure Fund (SFDI) stands to lose approximately CZK 488 million (~€20 million) in projected revenue in 2027, rising to around CZK 739 million (~€30.2 million) in 2028. Annual SFDI revenue from vignettes is budgeted at roughly CZK 8.7 billion (~€355 million).
